Are you confident in recognising restrictive practice? Do you know when and how to use restrictive practice safely whilst meeting legal requirements and safeguarding a person’s rights?

This course will step you through identifying restrictive practice, the legal requirements of use, monitoring outcomes to meet the quality standards, and eliminate inappropriate use.  

 Course outcomes:

  • Know what restrictive practice is and how to identify it
  • Learn the 4 L’s of Restrictive Practice to ensure legal requirements are met
  • Know how to use behaviour support plans to minimise the use of restrictive practice
  • Gain case study practice of identifying restrictive practice use
  • Know what to document when restrictive practice is used and how to monitor safety

Presented by:

Michele Moreau: Clinical Director. Developer of the FACT documentation method, Michele is experienced in the implementation of clinical governance to achieve excellence in care delivery, quality standard compliance and supportive work environments for staff. She advises on clinical governance internationally and promotes the use of lean, human factor informed systems to simplify the achievement of quality outcomes.

 Her experience includes leading the risk management service for tertiary hospitals, the oversight of medico-legal cases, complaints systems, root cause analyses, open disclosure, credentialing processes, staff performance issues and clinical governance committees. Her skills are simplifying what appears complicated into an easily understandable and useable format.

 Michele holds qualifications in health service management, nursing and midwifery. Her background includes senior leadership positions in hospital and health service administration, in addition to the management of serious incidents and complaints in the legal and regulatory space.
